A Stranger Crochets A Hat Mid-Flight For Babysitting Next To Her On Their Child’s 1st Flight

For any parent, taking their first flight with a newborn baby may be rather nerve-racking. The Hoboken, New Jersey-based Levine family was concerned about the well-being of their 5-month-old daughter during a flight to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Little Romey, however, turned out to be flawless—mostly because she was enthralled with the woman crocheting across the aisle. “[Romey] ended up taking a liking to this woman next to us and the woman was crocheting. Her hands were moving a million miles an hour and Romey was just obsessed with it,” Romey’s mother Kelly Levine told a media outlet, adding that her daughter is “observant” and “very curious.”

Meegan Rubin, a Philadelphia resident from Villanova, was the crocheting stranger. “I was sitting in the aisle and the baby was in the aisle so she was gazing at me the entire flight. I was working on a sweater,” Ruben told GMA. “She was mesmerized by it.” When Rubin noticed Romey admiring her work, she claimed her heart warmed and she started crocheting her a hat as a surprise gift while they were in mid-air. “I was like, if I [don’t] run out of this yarn and there’s time, I’ll do it because I had the same color yarn as her little outfit,” Rubin recalled. She adds: “I couldn’t help it. I was like, this baby is getting something because she’s too cute.

However, Rubin had to work quickly since he began the secret hat project with just one hour remaining in their over five-hour return journey. The Levines were shocked when Rubin completed the hat and gave them an unexpected present. Romey’s mother claimed that the present was unanticipated.

What Does Baby Romey’s Mother Think About The Gift?

She ended up gifting us this beautiful beanie that she decided to make for [Romey] mid-flight. Never seen someone work so fast in my life. I had no idea it was for us,” Kelly Levine said. “We thought, ‘What a cool way to just do something nice for a stranger,’ and in turn, light up everyone else’s mood. It was such a selfless act.”  “We landed and right as everybody was getting up, I was like, ‘I’m finished! … Let’s see if it fits baby,” Rubin added. Romey’s new hat was, everyone agreed, “a perfect fit.” When Romey put on the hat, the other passengers on the aircraft applauded, marveling at how well it fit her little skull. Since then, the adorable moment’s video has received over seven million views on TikTok, indicating its huge viral success.
