If you’re dreaming of tropical living, Costa Rica might be the perfect match. Known for its lush rainforests, pristine beaches, and strong eco-conscious values, Costa Rica also makes immigration pretty simple. The country offers two main visa options for Americans: the Pensionado visa for retirees and the Rentista visa for those with income from investments or remote work. Both options come with relatively low income requirements and a path to residency. Costa Rica’s public healthcare system is affordable and well-regarded, and private options are also available. Add to that a stable government, low crime rate, and a strong focus on environmental sustainability, and it’s no wonder many Americans choose to stay long-term. Towns like Tamarindo, Santa Teresa, and San José are especially popular with newcomers. The country’s laid-back vibe and strong expat networks make adjusting to life there easier than in most places.
